success and halloween thoughts

I went to Joann's with my housemate yesterday so she could procure fabric for her cape for her halloween costume.

I FOUND THE TEMPLATE FOR MY GRANDMOTHER'S QUILT!!!! and I purchased it for $5 bucks, because Joann's is always doing sales. w00t!

I thought about doing a halloween costume again this year. I considered being a mermaid, but after realize I am not allowed to buy more fabric, I couldn't justify this. Let's face it, I just wanted to buy sparkly/sequined fabrics.

Devon sent me a link to the below, and things have just spiraled out of control.

I do this to myself every year. Today is the 15th. I'm going to be putting the gumball dress together and documenting it here!

I've also been working on my peony muslin, but it needs a lot of work. This is more fun!

Quilt Project

My grandma Marie was a wonderful woman. She loved to bake bread, sew, crochet, not to mention that she made the best cookies and jams!! She made the polka-dotted jumpsuit I can be seen wearing on the "about me" page, as well as a formal I ended up wearing to a winter dance. I'm not sure, but I'm fairly certain she made that formal years before and I just ended up wearing it. She made this Christmas outfit for me, if I recall correctly it was made of a heavier felt type material. I wish I had a better photo of it, but it's two pieces, the skirt was (I think) cut on the bias and the top vest buttoned up the back. ADORBS! Grandma also made this awesome velvet jumper for my aunt Maria, but here I am wearing it when I was in 3rd grade at the Oregon Trail assembly.

She passed away last year and I was fortunate to receive some of her HUGE collection of crafting items (patterns, notions, fabrics, doll clothes patterns, among other things) and one of those in particular is this really neat quilt that is partially pieced together, with some pieces cut out (BY HAND!) to be pieced. Everything was kept together in a plastic bag, with no directions or template. Do you recognize this pattern?

I don't know much about quilting, but one of the things I'd like to do this winter is sew together the remaining pieces that have been cut out. My mom suggested I sew them on top of a blanket, which is perfect because there is a lime green blanket that I also received from Grandma and I think it will be the perfect combination. Some of these colors are absolutely brilliant and I love these vintage fabrics.

There is a blue and white striped fabric in here that I am especially fond of, as I remember an apron that she made out of it and finished with red bias tape. She used a pattern that I now have, and I may just use for the upcoming apronalong.
I hope to post progress throughout the winter as this quilt comes to life and will finally find its home keeping my feet warm! Are any of you planning on quilting projects of any sort? Do you have a favorite outfit a grandma or mom sewed for you?
